Mr. Katz Stories

. . . Steve was my teacher too and, later, we were writing partners. We wrote four screenplays together, including "HOSTAGE" and "THE CONTRACT". When I last talked to Steve, he told me how proud he was of his students. It was his passion for writing and deep compassion for his students' efforts that first inspired me many years ago when I needed encouragement. No doubt he will continue to encourage all of our efforts in the future. Please pass the word along that I will be happy to help those of his students who may be interested in documenting his career. - John Darrouzet
I have played cards with Steve for the last 5 years. Every time I saw him, he put a smile on my face. His thumb up on a movie would guarantee it was great. Every adult hopes to leave behind a legacy. Looking over this site it is very clear the kind of legacy Steve Katz left behind. Mr. Katz would be proud of what you have done here, and what you will do in the future. -Leon Harris
I think i speak for anyone who ever had the privilege of knowing Mr. Katz that he was one of the most genuine people you could ever meet. His devotion to his students and his work made him a role model to all that knew him. I could not have ever asked for a better teacher/friend and his legacy will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything Mr. Katz. - Keaton Forcht
I am one of Steve and Barbara’s closest friends. I just wanted to let you know what a beautiful job you have done…and what a great tribute this is to a wonderful man. He would be proud. Thank you for honoring him in this way. G-d Bless. -Lee Benson
I was going through a real tough time last year, and Mr. Katz knew it. So one day during class he pulled me aside from the rest of the class and gave me this clear pen that if you pressed a button on the top, it would glow different colors, and he gave it to me just because I was feeling down. He was also the only teacher cool enough to write me a letter of recomedation the day before the deadline of my scholarship. Most teachers would've have told me "Too bad". RIP Stephen Katz. We will never forget you. Ever. -Ovidio Hinojosa
I heard this morning... very bad news, I'm sure you are upset and I am too. CMS will never be the same without him. I am planning to make a documentary about Mr. Katz and I would appreciate any help. If you have any footage of him and/or pictures you could provide me with, it would help alot because i dont have enough resources about him. I think just about everyone in my CMS class are going to leave school Friday for the funeral, maybe I'll see you there. May he rest in peace and may his memories never leave the CMS room. - Mark Sorrentino
Mr. Katz was my son's (Keaton )teacher last year. He cared about each student. They all loved him & could see & feel his encouragement towards individuality. My love & prayers are w/ the entire family. -Brenda Forcht
Thank you so much for doing this for Mr. Katz. Steve was one of my favorite friends at Plano East. Steve and I shared so many stories as my mother was suffereing from cancer at the same time as Steve. I worked at Plano East from 1997-2005 and during that time Steve and I leaned on each other quite a bit. This man was a great, intelligent man --he influenced not only all of his students but the staff that loved and worked with him. God Bless you for creating this site for all of us to remember his contributions. - Nancy Sims
